What’s your story 12 months from today?
I should have, I could have, I would have if only I had consistently worked toward the goal. That’s going to be the reality for a lot of people come the end of 2011, but not for you. This is your year. It’s your year because you know the importance of a clear goal, a great plan to achieve it and having a system to help you hold yourself accountable to the daily steps to work that plan.
For many people this is the time of year to block out your yearly planning. It’s often been said that statistically the average person will spend more time planning a family vacation then they will their life. As frightening as that may seem, it’s true for most people. What people really need is two to three days to think, the way Napolean Hill meant it, to “think and grow rich”. The title is not an accident. Real thought is a sure fire way to getting what you want in 2011. Take a minimum of 2 days to plan all areas of your life. Start with some small, manageable goals that you can really achieve—what’s your weight going to be at the end of the year? Are you going to do your 1st 5k? Are you going to make healthy food choices? How are you going to qualify that? Increase your Income by 10%? What books are you going to read? With whom are you going to spend your time?
These are two days that you focus almost solely on the upcoming year. If you can take a road trip to a beautiful place then do it. If the best you can do is turn off the phones and the television and lock yourself up in a room—that’s great! That’s how Julie and I spent our first three years of goal setting. Just make sure that you have the proper time, space and environment to think.
Here’s to your successes and failures, may you embrace them both.
